Measuring Entrepreneurial Orientation of the Local Tanzanian Construction Firms

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is considered to be an important catalyst in the process of improving firm's performance and growth by creating new ways of performing business within the firms. This study measured the level of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) among the local Tanzanian construction firms. The study also measured the impact of EO dimensions on growth of the same firms. One-sample t-test and regression analysis were employed for the analysis of 110 local Tanzanian construction firms. Generally, findings demonstrated lack of EO among the local Tanzanian construction firms. On measuring the impact of EO dimensions on growth of the firms, findings indicated a significant impact of proactiveness and risk taking on growth of firms; while innovativeness, autonomy and competitive aggressiveness measured not significant. This study makes a significant contribution to the field of entrepreneurship in Tanzania due to the fact that there was no other studies appear to have been done on EO of the local Tanzanian construction firms. Overall, these findings contribute to a better understanding of individual EO dimensions and their impacts on firm's growth, specifically to construction firms.
