Item ComparativePerformanceofScience,ArtsandBusinessSubjectCombinationsinTanzanianAdvancedCertificateofSecondaryEducationResults:2004 to 2010(UDSM IDS, 2009) Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.Science knowledge is acknowledged to be one or the key economic development indicators in a country. Performance in science subjects has been one of the challenges in many developing countries. The objective of this is to explore the performance in science subject combinations In relation to the arts and business subjects. The paper used the performance of students in advanced secondary education in Tanzania. lt shows that PCI forma nee In science subject combinations is poorer than that in arts and business, and performance has deteriorated over time. This IS based on the Tanzanian Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) results from 2004 10 2010. Science subject combination was defined as any subject combination that contained physics, chemistry or biology. Arts was defined as any subject combination that contained at least one language, while business was defined as subject combination that contained economics as one of the subjects. The study recommends a critical look at the syllabus as well as the way examinations are set and marked. The paper identifies areas for further studies.Item Factors influencing consumers’ adoption of mobile financial services in Tanzania(Taylor and Francis, 2017) Abdinoor, Amina; Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.This study aimed at assessing consumers’ adoption of mobile financial services in Tanzania using Technology Acceptance Model. The study had the following objectives, to assess the individual awareness of mobile financial services; perceived usefulness; perceived benefits; and costs effects on adoption of mobile financial services. Random sampling technique was employed to select the sample for data collection. Two hundred participants were selected randomly from Dar es Salaam region particularly Kinondoni District. The sample included the users and non-users of mobile financial services. The study used primary data and regression model. The findings of this study show that mobile financial service adoption is positively related to individual awareness, perceived usefulness and perceived benefit but it is negative related to cost effects. Nevertheless, the study showed that demographic characteristics of respondents (sex, age and income level) are among the factors moderating adoption of mobile financial services. From the findings, this study highlights recommendation that service providers need to play a leading role in influencing individual awareness, perceived usefulness, and perceived benefit of mobile banking. However, cost effect has been found as one of the barrier to the intention to adopt mobile financial services in Tanzania. Service providers should consider affordability and availability of the financial services for the low-income segment in the society. These results can be extended to any developing countryItem Factors influencing consumers’ adoption of mobile financial services in Tanzania(Taylor and Francis, 2017) Abdinoor, Amina; Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.This study aimed at assessing consumers’ adoption of mobile financial services in Tanzania using Technology Acceptance Model. Although e-government is vital due to its importance inenhancing efficiency in public sector services, itsimplementation has manychallenges. This study, therefore, aimed at examining the administrative features and users’ attributes as far as technological aspects are concerned, for e-government implementation. Data wascollected by using structured questionnaires served to Customs Staff and Tax Practitioners in DaresSalaam Region. This data included technological aspects (e.g.ICT infrastructure and support); user’s attributes (e.g. education levels); and administrative aspects in ICT regulations. Itwasanalysed quantitatively using descriptive statistics, factor analysis and finally, thestudy hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling. The results show that the developed model was supportive as users’ attributes and administrative aspects were bothpositively related to success of technological aspects relevant for e-government implementation. Consequently, governments need to give attention to administrative issues of ICT policies, regulations,as well as people-related matters such as ICT knowledge for the success of technologicalaspectsuseful in e-government operations. However, the research addressed concerns withinTanzania’s context, one of the developing countries; and such findings might not be generalised. It would be very informative if the study was replicated in other developing countries, to determine the pattern of influence of administrative characteristics and users’ attributes on e-government.Item Managers’ Perceptions of the Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in the Growth of Firms: Evidence from Tanzania(UDSM IDS, 2014) Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.This paper evaluates the perception of managers in Tanzania of whether or not organizations benefit, in terms of growth, by acting responsibly socially. It evaluates two types of social responsibilities: market-oriented social responsibility and corporate social responsibility. The study interviewed 30 managers to evaluate the relationship between corporate social responsibility and the performance of a firm. The research was qualitative in nature and involved three phases. In phase one three managers were interviewed separately, and in the second phase the results obtained from the three interviews were discussed by 20 managers, who in the third phase introduced minor changes that were agreed by interviewing seven managers. The study revealed that managers perceive corporate social responsibility as a necessary factor but not sufficient for the growth of firms. The research shows that market-oriented corporate social responsibility increases financial performance, while corporate social responsibility influences non-financial performance. It is important for organizations to know what they want from any social responsibility activity. Market-oriented social responsibility tends to influence financial performance, while corporate social responsibility improves organizations’ non-financial performance.Item The relationship between electronic readiness and corruption reduction: Countrywide data analysis(2016) Ntemi, W D; Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.Abstract: This study analyzed whether or not there is any correlation between the level of electronic readiness (e-readiness) and corruption in countries. The study was guided by the theory of network society, the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as well as Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The study opted for secondary data from 147 countries of the world for both measures of e-readiness (Global Information Technology) and corruption perception index (from Transparency International) for 2014. Statistical analysis was done using correlation and regression analyses. Four sub measures for e-readiness included networked readiness index, environment readiness index, society readiness index, and usage readiness index (independent variables). Results from the study showed there is correlation between the two variables. Based on the objective of this study, it is concluded that the higher the e-readiness, the low the corruption. This implies that one way of combating corruption is to attain good e-readiness index.Item RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION IN MICROFINANCE INSTITUTIONS AND ACCESS TO FINANCIAL SERVICES IN TANZANIA(Educational Research Multimedia & Publications, 2019-04) Mwashiuya, Herbert Tenson; Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.Access to financial services is limited to the large population worldwide. This study mainly intended to examine a relationship between ICT adoption in microfinance institutions and access to financial services, particularly availability, convenience and affordability in Tanzania. A cross-section study design was conducted in two regions on 77 selected microfinance institutions. An exploratory factor analysis was employed to reduce variables to a manageable size, while retaining original information. The study used structural equation modelling with the help of Analysis of Moment Structures version 21. Five factors were grouped from 29 variables. Only one path leading from ICT adoption to availability of financial services was found statistically significant. This implies ICT plays a key role in financial service delivery to clients via electronic delivery channels. Hence, services become available to everybody regardless of location and time.Item The role of information systems usage in enhancing port logistics performance: evidence from the Dar Es Salaam port, Tanzania(Springer, 2018) Mlimbila, James; Mbamba, Ulingeta O.L.This study investigated the role of information systems usage in enhancing port logistics performance using the port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as an example. Specifically, the study examined the role of information systems usage in contributing to reducing shipping and trucking costs, improving on-time delivery of goods and services, increasing trade volume, and enhancing organisational logistics capability. The study employed a quantitative approach, with questionnaires deployed to gather data about information systems usage and the attendant effects. The reliability was measured using Cronbach’s alpha. A canonical correlation analysis was performed to estimate the relationship of information systems usage to the port logistics performance. The study established that relationships exist between information systems usage and the perceived decrease in shipping and trucking costs, timely delivery of goods and services, perceived increase in trade volume, and enhanced organisational logistics capability. Based on these findings, the study recommends that ports consider building the capacity of their employees to utilise and manage information systems much more effectively and efficiently to increase the port’s performance.
